What if I don’t become PCI compliant?
All merchants who process credit card transactions are required to be PCI compliant. If you do not complete the process, you will be billed a monthly non-compliance fee. In addition to the monthly fee, if there is a breach at your merchant location, your business may be liable for fines and fees levied by the card brands, as well as the cost of a forensic audit.
What is an approved scanning vendor?
An approved scanning vendor, (ASV), is certified by the PCI Security Council to perform system scans on any internet-facing systems used to store or process credit cards transactions. The scans are designed to test the systems to ensure that there are no vulnerabilities which could lead to a data breach.
How do I become PCI compliant?
Once your merchant account is approved, you will be enrolled in our web-based PCI compliance program. Our partner, MAXpci, will assist you with logging in and is available to help you complete the process.
What is PCI Compliance?
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, (PCI-DSS), is a set of data security standards designed to improve data security measures at all merchant locations. All merchants are required to be PCI DSS compliant.
Do I have to have an EMV terminal?
No. You don't have to upgrade to an EMV terminal. However, if you do not use an EMV terminal, you may be liable for some types of credit card fraud.
What are the benefits of EMV?
EMV reduces the likelihood of fraudulent activity. Signatures are not required when an EMV card is used with it’sunique PIN number.
What is an EMV terminal?
EMV stands for Europay, Mastercard and Visa, the three companies who created the standard for 'chip and pin'. An EMV payment system is one in which you use the microprocessor chip inside your card to pay with credit or debit cards.
Is a POS system expensive?
New tablet-based solutions can cost under $1,000. The expense depends on the number of terminals needed.
What are the benefits of using a POS system?
A POS System can help you keep track of your stock and inventory, analyze sales data, maintain a sales history for your business and adjust purchasing and re-order levels.
Will all mobile phones work with the processing app?
Most are, but you should verify that your smartphone is compatible.

Is a mobile device secure?
Yes. Smartphone apps don’t’ store information on the device itself, and the card reader is fully encrypted so that credit and debit card numbers are entirely safeguarded.
What is a mobile card reader?
A mobile card reader is a small device that plugs in to a smartphone through the headphone jack.
What do I need in order to use my mobile device for payments?
Once the processing app is downloaded to the smartphone, transactions can be processed. Transactions can be keyed in, or swiped through a mobile card reader.
What mobile options are available?
Credit card payments can be processed anywhere you are, simply by using your mobile phone.
What is a Virtual Terminal?
A Virtual Terminal allow you to process using your computer. This is an inexpensive option for merchants who do not have a card physically present, and who do not want the added expense of purchasing a terminal. The Virtual Terminal can be accessed anywhere that you have an internet connection, making it a very portable option as well.
Will we be trained on how to use our new equipment?
Training is done when the equipment is installed. Ongoing support is available through our technical support department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Is processing equipment provided free?
We offer processing equipment at extremely low prices. In some cases, equipment may be loaned at no cost for seasonal or special events.
When will my payments be deposited?
Most deposits are made within two business days of settlement.
Who do I contact if I need help?
Empire Payments provides support via phone and email for all account related issues, including questions about fees and statement. Technical Support is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
How long will it take for my account to get set up?
Most applications are approved within 2 – 3 days.
What is a merchant processing account?
Merchant accounts provide merchants the ability to process credit and debit cards.
